Pafiliwn Pennard Project Summary

Pennard Community Council wish to rebuild the pavilion in Pennard Park that currently provides facilities to sports participants using the grounds in the park. The building is in a very poor state of repair with escalating maintenance costs and facilities such as toilets and showers unfit for purpose. The new building will provide a community hub based on the needs of the local community, that provides a place for people from all generations to enjoy the park, benefit from outdoor recreation and to connect with each other. The building is to be built from natural materials, have low energy needs and use sustainable principles in its construction. In addition, the local community will be invited to be involved in the construction of the building, creating a place built by and for the local community.

Down to Earth is working closely with Pennard Community Council to create a place that benefits people and the environment.

This project is the result of a community consultation that lead to the creation of a Feasibility Plan and a Business Plan.

Based on this, we will consult with the community on how they want the facility to look and feel to create a Design Brief. We will be fundraising for the design stages (RIBA 1-3) to get us up to planning permission. Subsequent phases will then work with a design team to get the project to planning permission stage. Once a detailed design is available, we can start looking for funds for the full renovation costs and start planning the construction process in which we will involve the community.

Who is funding this project?

Pennard Community Council have provided the initial funding to launch the project. Further funding is being sought initially as part of the project for the design stages.
