Learning From the Past:
Giving to the Future

Traditional skills for a sustainable future

With the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we’ve created hands-on, practical learning experiences that reconnect us with traditional skills — from timber framing and cob building to hedge laying and cleft fencing.

These are skills that have shaped our landscapes and communities for generations. Now, they can help us build a greener, more sustainable future.

Why it matters

We believe heritage skills offer real, practical answers to today’s environmental and social challenges. They’re not just about the past — they’re about how we live well now, and in the future.

Through this project, we’re strengthening our connection to land, materials, and each other — while helping more people access meaningful training and opportunities.

We’re deeply grateful to National Lottery players for helping to make this possible. Diolch

The National Lottery Heritage Fund Logo

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
