Wood for Good

What is this project about?

As part of the ‘Rhondda Skyline’ Climate Action Fund project, “Wood for Good” explores how both the community and nature can benefit from developing potential products from the Skyline woodland estate.

We will work with the local community to explore the potential of what can be realised from the “skyline” of the woodland estate.

Combining our experience of inclusive and interactive consultation as well as our practical experience of delivering woodland management programmes, outdoor adventure activities, traditional craft programmes and sustainable construction programmes – we will work with the local community over a period of 24 months to nurture and develop the landscape, whilst exploring the potential of the forest to develop products as part of the Rhondda Skyline Project to generate a sustainable local economy.

Working closely with the community of Treherbert we’ll deliver programmes which are clinically proven to improve mental health, as well as offering a space for gaining qualifications, whilst the community explores the potential products which could be developed out the woodlands.

This approach will be driven by the needs of the community and what they identify as products with the greatest potential.

Who is this project for?

This project is for everyone in the wider Rhondda Cynon Taff area
We will develop a combination of long-term programmes, broken down into intake cycles of 6-8 weeks, one day a week over the course of the 2 year project.

We will also be offering one off and short term activities to maximise inclusion.

We aim to get people involved by:

  • Developing inclusive and meaningful ways of engagement to facilitate community ownership and explore how the woodland estate can create social, economic and nature benefits
  • Working with local communities from across Rhondda Cynon Taff and in particular targeting those most under represented and most in need of support
  • Partnering with community based organisations who have a strong presence and good links in the local area.

When?

This programme will be delivered between November 2023 and August 2025.

Where?

Our office and welfare base will be within the Valleys kids owned building on Bute St, Treherbert.

We will also be utilising the “Old Brewery” site in Treherbert. Owned by Welcome to Our Woods, this site is – quite literally – an old brewery and will provide the launch pad to the woodland from which we’ll be running our practical outdoor programmes.

Volunteer requirements

Volunteers need to:

  • Be able to get to our sites.
  • Wear clothing that you can move comfortably in, don’t mind getting dirty, and is suitable for our fabulous Welsh weather!

Down to Earth will provide ...

  • Supply all tools and personal protective equipment required and have waterproofs that group members can use.

Coed Er Lles

Am beth mae’r prosiect hwn?

Fel rhan o brosiect Cronfa Gweithredu Hinsawdd ‘Rhondda Skyline’, mae “Coed Er Lles” yn archwilio sut y gall y gymuned a natur elwa o ddatblygu cynhyrchion posibl o ystâd goetir Skyline.

Byddwn ni’n gweithio gyda’r gymuned leol i archwilio potensial yr hyn y gellir ei wireddu o “nenlinell” ystâd y coetir.

Gan gyfuno ein profiad o ymgynghori cynhwysol a rhyngweithiol yn ogystal â’n profiad ymarferol o ddarparu rhaglenni rheoli coetiroedd, gweithgareddau antur awyr agored, rhaglenni crefft traddodiadol a rhaglenni adeiladu cynaliadwy – byddwn ni’n gweithio gyda’r gymuned leol dros gyfnod o 24 mis i feithrin a datblygu’r dirwedd, wrth archwilio potensial y goedwig i ddatblygu cynnyrch fel rhan o Brosiect Skyline Cwm Rhondda i greu economi leol gynaliadwy.

Gan weithio’n agos gyda chymuned Treherbert, byddwn ni’n darparu rhaglenni sydd wedi’u profi’n glinigol i wella iechyd meddwl, yn ogystal â chynnig lle i ennill cymwysterau, tra bod y gymuned yn archwilio’r cynhyrchion posibl y gellid eu datblygu allan o’r coetiroedd.

Bydd y dull hwn yn cael ei sbarduno gan anghenion y gymuned a’r hyn maen nhw’n ei nodi fel cynhyrchion sydd â’r potensial mwyaf.

Ar gyfer pwy mae’r prosiect hwn?

Mae’r prosiect hwn ar gyfer pawb yn ardal ehangach Rhondda Cynon Taf

Byddwn ni’n datblygu cyfuniad o raglenni tymor hir, wedi’u rhannu’n gylchoedd cymeriant o 6-8 wythnos, un diwrnod yr wythnos yn ystod y prosiect 2 flynedd.

Byddwn ni hefyd yn cynnig gweithgareddau untro a thymor byr i wneud y mwyaf o gynhwysiant.

Ein nod yw annog pobl i gymryd rhan drwy wneud y canlynol:

  • Datblygu ffyrdd cynhwysol ac ystyrlon o ymgysylltu i hwyluso perchnogaeth gymunedol ac archwilio sut y gall yr ystâd goetir greu buddion cymdeithasol, economaidd a natur
  • Gweithio gyda chymunedau lleol o bob rhan o Rhondda Cynon Taf ac yn benodol targedu’r rhai sydd wedi’u tangynrychioli fwyaf ac sydd â’r angen mwyaf am gymorth

Byddwn hefyd yn defnyddio safle yr “Old Brewery” yn Nhreherbert. Yn eiddo i Welcome to Our Woods, mae’r safle hwn – yn llythrennol iawn – yn hen fragdy a bydd yn darparu’r pad lansio i’r coetir y byddwn ni’n rhedeg ein rhaglenni awyr agored ymarferol ohono.

Mae angen i gyfranogwyr y rhaglen wneud y canlynol:

  • Gallu cyrraedd ein safleoedd.
  • Gwisgo ddillad y gallwch chi symud ynddyn nhw’n gyfforddus, nad oes ots os ydyn nhw’n mynd yn fudr, ac sy’n addas ar gyfer ein tywydd gwych yng Nghymru!

Byddwn ni yn

  • Cyflenwi’r holl offer a chyfarpar amddiffynnol personol sydd eu hangen a meddu ar ddillad gwrth-ddŵr y gall aelodau’r grŵp eu defnyddio.
